Planning your Breast augmentation Surgery
Silicone implants are filled with a fixed amount of silicone gel. Silicone implants vary in shell surface (smooth/textured), shape, volume, and shell thickness. Most silicone gel-filled implants are not adjustable.
Recently, an improved form of gel was developed. This newer type of silicone gel implant is called cohesive gel. These cohesive gel implants can retain their shape even if the shell ruptures, since they are slightly thicker in consistency.
Silicone gel-filled breast implants are now available for all women age 22 years and up. Our Cosmetic surgeons are very experienced in the use of silicone implants and was an FDA breast implant investigator. He was involved in FDA studies of both Mentor and Inamed silicone breast implants.
Many breast enlargement patients believe that silicone implants have a more natural look and feel than saline implants. This is because silicone gel has a texture that is more similar to breast tissue.
Some patients choose saline implants because they cost less than silicone implants. When you come in for a consultation with silicon valley cosmetic surgeon, you will have an opportunity to compare and see how each type of breast implant feels.
Saline implants also have some disadvantages compared to silicone implants. Ruptures can happen more suddenly than in silicone gel implants. Some women feel the movement of the saline solution as a discomfort.
Both types of breast implants require maintenance. The Jeunederm cosmetic surgeon will inform you of what this involves. Also, when you have a mammogram, be sure to inform the technician that you have breast implants.

A Common Cosmetic Procedures
Your surgeon should also explain the type of anesthesia to be used, the type of facility where the surgery will be performed, and the costs involved. Because most insurance companies do not consider breast augmentation to be medically necessary, carriers generally do not cover the cost of this procedure. Your surgeon will give you instructions to prepare for surgery, including guidelines on eating and drinking, smoking, and taking or avoiding certain vitamins and medications. A mammogram may be recommended prior to your procedure to ensure breast health and serve as a baseline for future comparison. In addition to explaining your surgical procedure, you surgeon will discuss anesthesia, the recovery process and your obligations as a patient. You will also discuss where your procedure will be performed. You will be asked to sign consent forms to ensure that you fully understand the procedure you will undergo and any risks and potential complications of your surgery. There may be a waiting period of several days to weeks from the time of your consent to the day of surgery.
